My name is Miss Oakley and with Mrs Jones we are the Nursery team who are super excited to welcome your children to Lift St James the Great. In the Early Years, we believe that children learn best when they are happy and engaged therefore we strive to personalise the curriculum to every child's interest and individual needs. Nursery and Reception are the foundation years for a child's development and so we strive to ensure these are the best years for the children so that they can thrive.
We very much look forward to welcoming you into our Nursery setting and beginning your new and exciting journey at Lift St James the Great.
The Nursery Team
Our nursery provision is planned and delivered by our Nursery teacher, supported by a team of experienced and qualified early years practitioners. The foundation stage - nursery and reception classes are overseen by our KS1 and Foundation Stage Leader.
For more information, please read our Welcome Parent Information Booklet.
My name is Mrs Sargent and Miss Willis and we are the Reception Teacher.
Working in our class and supporting the children with their learning, we have Mrs McCelland who enjoys nurturing and supporting our children and wants to help every child to flourish in our class.
We look forward to working in partnership with you to give your child a happy and successful year in Reception Class.

Topmarks
My name is Miss Wallis and together with Miss Sheridan and Mrs Rees, we are the Year 1 / 2 team. We have some superb learning to indulge our minds and creative thinking this year.
The transition from Foundation Stage to Year 1 can be daunting but we aim to make this as enjoyable as possible by starting the academic year with some continuous provision, including the use of the outdoor area which we are extremely fortunate to have. We will endeavour to make use of the wonderful grounds throughout the year where opportunities arise, such as bird spotting in science and reading under a tree to share a class story.
We are working hard to build a strong foundation of skills for our children to ensure they are successful throughout their learning.

We are using Read Write Ink to learn phonics. We love our lessons at school and understand how important it is to keep practising. Please remember to read your child's book at home and practise reading the story green and red words.
Your child's phonics book must be in school everyday. They will be changed on Tuesday and Friday each week.
Your child we get homework on Wednesday, this is due back in on Monday.
My name is Miss Hazell and together with Miss Hawkins, we are the Year 3 team.
Miss Hazell and Miss Hawkins
My name is Miss Barclay and together with Mrs Thomas, we are the Year 4 team.
During Year 4, we need to prepare the children for the Multiplication Timetables Check in June. Please ensure that you are helping your child to practise their times tables as much as possible at home. We will support you to do this by challenging progress on TT Rockstars, daily arithmetic check ins and timestable interventions through music, group chants and tests!
We work hard to ensure that everyone is happy, healthy and supported in Rochester Class! If at anytime you would like to discuss your child, our door is always open.
Thank you,
Miss Barclay and Mrs Thomas
Reading
I am Mr Brown your class teacher this year and will be teaching in your class on Tuesdays to Fridays. Mrs Rees will be covering the class on a Monday.
I have been teaching for 18 years across Key Stage 2 including Year 6 for a number of years which helps me to know exactly what every child needs to understand and be able to do when they end their primary school journey. I have lead a variety of subjects and supported children within different aspects of extra-curricular life. I joined SJTG Academy last year in Year 5 so am very familiar with the curriculum coverage and look forward to continue sharing fun learning experiences with you.
We are also lucky to be joined by Miss Gillette who provides great support both emotionally and academically.
In Year 5, we do have high expectations and pupils are encouraged to be independent learners to prepare for the next chapter in their school life and take a proactive role in their own learning. This ranges from learning spellings, completing homework, reading at home, asking questions when they don't understand and being curious. We understand that the last few years have been difficult when it comes to learning but we are here, with your support, to work hard and do the very best that we can.
We will work hard to ensure that everyone is happy, healthy and supported in all aspects of school life but if you have any problems in or out of class please feel free to contact us for support.
In Year 5, this term, our PE Lessons are on a Tuesday and Thursday. Please make sure that your child wears their appropriate PE kit (blue PE t-shirt, plain black or navy shorts/jogging bottoms, trainers or plimsolls, school jumpers) on Tuesday and swimming kit on a Thursday.
Thank you
Mr Brown, Mrs Rees and Mrs Gillette
Outlined in our Homework Policy, the children will receive their homework (maths, English and times tables) on a Wednesday and this will be due in the following Monday. If the children need an additional copy, please contact a member of the year 6 team and we will ensure they have a spare copy printed. We also expect the children to read 3 times a week at home. This should be logged in their reading records We encourage children to read for pleasure!
We do ask that parents log their child's reading once a week on in their records (minimum) and children can then record for the other two independently
Here you will find some websites that you may find useful this year to support your children with their learning.
Welcome to Year 6's class page. The class are being taught this year by Miss Polom and Mrs Alexander.
We are very excited to be teaching your children this year, in what is their final year of primary school.
We have lots of exciting learning to take place this year as well as many different trips and experiences to further enhance our curriculum offer. After leaving in 2020, I returned to St James the Great in September last year, having taught elsewhere for two years. Alongside my role as your child's class teacher I am also leading Key Stage Two and maths. This year is going to be a very important year, as we not only help prepare the children for their transition to secondary school but also relish the opportunities the Year 6 curriculum brings us.
In addition to this, Miss Wenborn will be in class, supporting specific children each morning and helping the whole class in the afternoons. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
Thank you,
Miss Polom, Mrs Alexander and Miss Wenborn.
